Ukraine – Russia at war, today’s news live

«Argentina wants to send five fighter jets to Ukraine»

The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, has approved a plan that provides for the sending to Ukraine of five French-made Super Etendard fighter planes that Buenos Aires cannot use due to the embargo imposed by the United Kingdom against the country after Falklands war (1982): the Argentine online newspaper Infobae reports it. France’s participation is essential to overcome this geopolitical obstacle, and Foreign Minister Diana Mondino and Defense Minister Luis Petri have been working for weeks to implement the plan, which also involves the United States and NATO, the newspaper writes. Mondino, according to Infobae, discussed the project in a meeting he had in Paris with the French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné, in a secret meeting he had with NATO in Brussels, and in a meeting in Washington with the US national security advisor, Jake Sullivan. These conversations will be explored in depth during Petri’s tour this week in Europe. The Argentine Defense Minister, in fact, will meet the NATO leaders in Brussels, will participate with the Foreign Minister in the summit on peace in Ukraine which will be held in Switzerland and is also expected to meet his French counterpart in Paris. The five fighters are located at the Espora base, in the province of Buenos Aires, and cannot be used because they lack the cartridges that allow the pilot’s seat to be ejected in an emergency. Argentina cannot purchase these cartridges due to the embargo imposed by London and since the jets arrived in the country – in 2019 – they have never flown.
