Talks in Cairo concluded. Hamas: “We support the mediators’ proposal”

The round has ended diplomatic talks in Cairo. Hamas announced that his delegation left the Egyptian capital to return to Doha, Qatar, and reiterated his support for the proposedunderstanding presented by the mediators to reach a truce.

We confirm our commitment and support for the approval of the mediators’ document regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,” Izzat al Rishq, a member of the terrorist organization’s political bureau, told Al Jazeera. The representative of the Palestinian movement also underlined that the IDF incursion in Rafah has as its objective the “hinder the efforts of mediators”. The draft to which Hamas has given its consent is a new document, but whose terms differ from those of the proposal previously approved by Israel. It is not known what the conditions contained in it are, but if there are still requests for total withdrawal of the IDF from the Strip and of definitive termination of hostilities, Tel Aviv will repel it.

These two points, in fact, have always been judged as unacceptable by the Jewish executive, because they were seen as equivalent to a declaration of surrender. The Israeli delegation has not yet made any statements regarding the outcome of the talks, but there is a high probability that they will once again end in nothing. This hypothesis has already been strengthened by the accusations made on May 8 by the terrorists’ representatives against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is said to be guilty of having brought the negotiations back to the starting point. “The families of the hostages should know that the current round of talks is thelast chance to bring their loved ones back”said a Hamas official, quoted by Haaretz.

For his part, the Tel Aviv prime minister reiterated his intention to continue fighting until total victory against terrorists and their eradication from the Strip. “Today we once again face enemies intent on destroying us. I say to the leaders of the world: no pressure, no decision by any international forum will prevent Israel from defending itself,” he said on Holocaust Remembrance Day in Jerusalem. His words seemed to be a response to American President Joe Biden’s decision to suspend the shipment of weapons to his Jewish ally. “Countless good people around the world support our just cause,” Netanyahu added.

We will defeat our own genocidal enemies”.
