A FedEx Boeing 767 cargo plane from Paris made an emergency landing at Istanbul Airport on Wednesday following a front landing gear failure.

A broken down to the front landing gear forced a cargo plane to land literally on its belly, crawling, at the airport Istanbul. This was reported by the “Anadolu” press agency, explaining that the aircraft, a Boeing 767 of Fedex Express, had taken off from Paris.

The pilots, after realizing that the landing gear it didn’t work, they requested permission to emergency landing to the Turkish airport authorities, who promptly sent rescue and firefighting teams to the runway. The dramatic shots video they show the moment in which the aircraft emits sparks, with the front part of the fuselage rubbing on the runway.

“No one was injured and the crew evacuated the plane safely,” said Abdulkadir Uraloglu, Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. The runway was then closed while the plane was removed, he added.

“Istanbul Airport is one of the most complete and qualified airports in the world. Therefore, a disruption on a runway does not affect air traffic. Flights continue,” said Istanbul Governor Davut Gül.

“L’accident was handled effectively before the scheduled fusolago landing, thanks to the quick action of the ARFF (Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting) teams positioned on the runway, ensuring that there were no casualties,” said the Istanbul Airport operator, IGA, in a statement.

“Following the accident, only runway 16R was temporarily closed to air traffic. ARFF teams are currently working to relocate the aircraft to a safe area and resume flight operations on the runway. Meanwhile, all other runways , including reserve ones, are operational without interruption,” IGA added.
