We publish the translation of a touching letter published in the Time of Israel and signed by Sherri Mandell, mother of a child massacred during the Second Intifada of 2001.
When you say you want an intifada, a global uprising against the Jews, you are justifying the murder of innocent people, like my son Koby and his friend Yosef, who were in eighth grade when the terrorists beat them to death with stones, abandoning them in a cave with blood smeared on the walls at the start of the Second Intifada in 2001.
Koby was our oldest son. He loved baseball, basketball and pizza. He was just a little boy, left home for an excursion. This is who you are asking to kill, by any means necessary.
That murder didn’t get us out of Israel. That murder did not bring peace. That killing did not bring positive results for the Palestinians. Supporting murder will not help the Palestinian cause, not 23 years ago, not today.
When you say you want an intifada, when you shout, “Resistance by any means necessary,” you may be unintentionally damaging the fight for the Palestinian people.
You are condoning the murder of entire families, like the Fogel family, who were murdered in their home. Their 12-year-old daughter came home that night to find her family massacred: mother, father, 3-month-old baby and two brothers. A surviving child, aged 2, sat next to his parents, who lay in a pool of blood. He was trying to wake them up. The rest of the Fogel family did not leave Israel. The murder of the Fogel family did not advance the Palestinians’ political agenda.
When you say you want an intifada, you condone the murder of Hallel Ariel that she was 13 when a terrorist stabbed her to death in her bed.
When you say you want a global intifada, you are saying you believe in the killing of the Jews during Easter, like the one at the Park Hotel in 2002 where 30 Israelis were murdered. You believe in killing us in nightclubs like the Dolphinarium in Tel Aviv where 21 Israelis were killed, most of them teenagers. You want to kill us in schools like at the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva, where a terrorist shot and killed eight teenagers.
When you call for an intifada, you are complicit in atrocities and murders. You encourage violence and anti-Semitism. Support radical Islam, Hamas and Iran who want to destroy the nation of Israel. Encourage Palestinians to kill and take prisoners, as they did on October 7, as if this were a path to peace.
They are using you. Your hypocrisy and anger are being exploited as you support terrorism against Jews anywhere in the world. You will not be victorious. Instead, your sensitivity will be dulled as you participate in an orgy of hate.
Instead of Resist by any means necessaryimagine changing your slogan: Peace by any means necessary. Imagine if you told Hamas to release the Israeli hostages and to stop launching missiles, so that the war can end.
Peace by any means necessary. This is a slogan that would end this war, bring the hostages home, and even encourage the Israeli government to promote a Palestinian state.
