Washington, April 25, 2024 – China is offering docking to a Russian cargo ship subjected to sanctions by the United States and involved in transfer of North Korean weapons to Moscow. According to British think tank Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), the Angara ship, which since August 2023 has transferred thousands of containers believed to contain ammunition sent by Pyongyang to Russian ports, has been anchored since February in a Chinese shipyard in the eastern province of Zhejiang.

Reuters He also writes that a U.S. State Department spokesperson said he was aware of “credible, open source reports” that the Angara was currently docked in a Chinese port and had raised the matter with Chinese authorities. “We call on all member states to fulfill their obligations under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2397,” the official said, referring to the resolution restricting trade with North Korea and requires UN states to de-register any ships involved in illicit activities.
