AGI – “We have reached a political agreement to extend the sanctions regime against Iran, currently in force for drones, also to missiles. For their transfer to Russia. Just as the regime is extended to other geographical areas, such as Middle East – applies to both missiles and drones – and finally the list of prohibited drone components has been expanded.” This was announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, at the end of the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.

Tajani: “In favor of new sanctions”

“We will also discuss on the basis of the work we have done in the G7 but here we are at community level, possible sanctions to be applied to Iran, especially with regard to the transfer of drones and possibly missiles to Houthis, Hezbollah, as has been done for the transfer to the Russian Federation. We are in favor of inflicting these sanctions, we will see what type we will discuss, but it was already clear, as far as we are concerned, in the message contained in the G7 document”. This was stated by the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, in a press point on the sidelines of the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, answering a question on the supply of Italian Samp-Ts to Ukraine.

Tehran’s Wrath

Iran has described as “shameful” the European Union’s plan to impose new sanctions on the country for the delivery of missiles and drones to Russia and groups supported by the regime in the Middle East. “If they take any action, it will be recorded as a shameful act in the history of Europe,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Naser Kanani said at a news conference in Tehran.

The diplomat added that if they sanctioned Tehran “it would be a reward for the aggressor regime and an illegal action against a government that acted only within the framework of the laws to create deterrence.” The reference is clearly to the April 1 bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, in which seven members of the Revolutionary Guard died, and to the retaliatory attack with hundreds of missiles and drones against Israel, which caused no damage.

“It is interesting to note that the European Union has not adopted any sanctions against the regime that committed crimes and massacred the Palestinian people, executed the sick and injured in hospitals and used the hospital complex as mass graves. And instead (at EU, ed.) are talking about sanctions against a government that acted within the international framework”, concluded the spokesperson.
