“He was awake and alert. He said get me out, get me out,” said one of the passers-by who saved the man in the burning car along a highway in Minnesota, USA. The scene was immortalized by a video recorded by a passer-by’s car camera.
“When I saw that car on fire I thought that that person trapped inside could have been me”, this is how Kadir Tolla, a young American from Minnesota, recounted the moment in which, together with other passers-by, he was the protagonist of a scary rescue along a busy American highway. The man was driving along Interstate 94 last Thursday afternoon when he saw a car on fire with a person stuck on board.
Tolla, together with another small group of passers-by, stopped immediately and got out to help the motorist, aware that waiting for help from the firefighters to put out the fire would have been fatal for the man on board. It was around 6.30pm when near Snelling Avenue in St. Paul, a Honda SUV he went off the road and hit a light pole before catching fire.
Kadir Tolla told FOX9 that he was on his way to meet some customers when he saw the car on fire and decided to stop. Others did the same and their intervention proved decisive. The man and the others present rushed towards the flames and, regardless of the danger, they broke the windows with makeshift objects, pulling out the unfortunate man who was stuck.

The scene was immortalized on video recorded by the camera on Tolla’s car. In the video, the man is seen grabbing a piece of plastic scattered from the road and desperately trying to break the window but without success. As the flames continue to advance, a worker finally runs in and shatters the window, allowing the man to be pulled out and saved.
“He was awake and alert. He was saying get me out, get me out” Tolla said, adding: “It was the scariest moment of my life, I will never forget what happened that day.” The driver was then rescued by paramedics and taken to hospital but did not suffer serious injuries.
