The man who entered the Iranian Consulate in Paris this morning, Friday 19 April, was arrested by special police forces after almost four hours. Contrary to what was reported in the call that alerted the officers, no explosive material has so far been found in his possession. The anti-terrorism units intervened, underlines the Prefecture, at the request of the diplomatic staff present at the headquarters. A witness had reported the presence of an armed man in the building on rue de Fresnel, in the sixteenth arrondissement. Security officers have sealed off the area, creating a security perimeter all around. Traffic was also interrupted on the metro lines that cross the neighborhood. According to local media reports, the man entered the building on rue de Fresnel around 11am on Friday 19 April “carrying with him a grenade or an explosive vest”, and then spread some flags on the ground. According to BfmTv, the man threatened to blow himself up to “avenge his brother”. The prefect requested the intervention of the Brigade de recherche et d’intervention, a special body of the French police.
