He broke into the Iranian consulate in Paris today, April 19, saying he had explosives with him and wanted to avenge his brother, but he only had toy bombs on him. The red alert was triggered in France by a 60-year-old of Iranian origin, arrested by agents of the Rapid Intervention Brigades (BRI), the elite unit of the French police, who intervened after the alert launched by the consulate.
The 60-year-old “left alone” from the consulate around 2.50pm, after negotiations with the BRI, who searched him, not finding any explosives, not even on board the car in which he had arrived.
Who is the man who triggered the alarm
The man, who arrived in France after the Khomeini revolution, was known to the authorities because in September last year he had been arrested for setting a fire at the same consulate, an act through which he had wanted to protest against the regime in support of the protests in Iran, one year after the death of Mahsa Amini. He had been sentenced to eight months in prison, plus a ban on going near the 16th arrondissement, where the consulate is located. A source close to the investigation described him as “an idealist”.
