Chop Shop: The plot and everything we know

Inspired by the book of the same name by Kathy Braidhill, the series will deal with the chilling and twisted story of the Lamb Funeral Home in 1980s Los Angeles. When David Sconce, the Machiavellian scion of a football coach and church organist, takes the reins of the family business, the seemingly all-American clan begins a stunning descent into hell. Desperate to keep their funeral business afloat, Sconce concocts a sinister new business strategy, involving the collection of human bodies and mass cremations. “The script will paint a harrowing portrait of arrogance versus neon greed of the era, where insatiable ambition transforms a former football star into a Southern California sociopath,” reads a first official description.

Linklater will play David Sconce, while Christina Ricci will play a journalist inspired by Braidhill. Andy Bellin (Lovelace) is currently writing the series and the producers are Ricci herself, Laura Rister (The Tale, Ferrari) and Untitled Entertainment, while the team is currently looking for potential directors and showrunners to complete the team. There is not yet a network or a reference streaming video service.

Christina and Hamish naturally turn towards complex and courageous material and roles. We feel so lucky to capture their combined magic in one show. We look forward to collaborating again with Andy Bellin, who shares a deep curiosity about intricate human stories.”
