It is not a particularly fortunate period for RAI. State TV is forced to suffer very heavy attacks from a journalist

State TV is under attack and it is the State itself that launches very heavy arrows against its structures and its networks. No, it is not a paradox nor even a play on words but a series of arrows that a minister of the Meloni government has directed towards Viale Mazzini.

This is a period in which targeting the public broadcaster is a bit like shooting at the Red Cross, in light of what has been happening for a few months now. The top management of RAI had to deal with some farewells that were as painful as they were significant, on all those of Fabio Fazio at Amadeus.

And the increasingly real risk is that other leading names will be added to the two big names who have emerged from Viale Mazzini. Between controversies, denials, political cases like that of Serena Bortone, at the moment the state broadcaster looks a lot like a powder keg. And the conditions for the short and medium term future are not exactly exciting.

In light of such a scenario it cannot be too surprising the latest attack against RAI by those who worked there until a year and a half ago and who now, by virtue of his role as Minister, shoots nothing at everything and everyone.

RAI, accusations of censorship are raining down: the criticism of the Minister of Culture

It is he who speaks out against the public broadcaster the former director of TG2 and current Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiulianowhich on the occasion of the conference “Towards the G7: AI, risks and opportunities” underway in Rome, attacked RAI head-on.

I spent almost twenty years in Rai, but during my career I had to suffer attacks of all kinds. I have been the victim of almost daily censorship, which in my case was triggered punctually every day or so“. Sangiuliano targets information which, according to him, has always been biased towards the left.

RAI, the accusations of censorship are crazy: Sangiuliano insists

The head of the Department of Culture doesn’t stop: “My critical spirit was annoying, I fought real battles from this point of view.” A very harsh judgment, almost ruthless as his closure certifies: “Rai is an expression of the pasteurization of thought, of banality made into thought. Every critical thought was censored“.

We remember that Sangiuliano joined Viale Mazzini as a journalist twenty-one years ago, therefore in 2003. He became editor-in-chief at TG1, first as a correspondent and then as deputy director during the direction of Augusto Minzolini. In 2018 he was appointed Director of TG2, a role he held until October 2022.
