Chico Forti – Ilaria Salis: a combination that has accompanied political controversies for days. Giorgia Meloni’s welcome upon the return to Italy of the entrepreneur from Trento convicted of murder and detained in the United States for 24 years caused discussion. And commentators and politicians from the center left have controversially asked themselves what the prime minister will do for Ilaria Salis, the teacher from Monza who has been detained in Budapest for over a year. Tommaso Cerno, director of Il Tempo, guest of David Parenzo and his L’Aria che tira su La 7, spoke on the controversy that has been inflaming the talk shows for days. “I heard this surreal controversy about the fact that he returned by plane – he explains Cerno lets out a joke – perhaps because Italy can now only be reached by dinghy. I’ve always known that you come back from America by plane.” Parenzo, however, scolds him: “No, no, it’s for whoever went to welcome him, not for the plane.” The director continues his speech and entrusts the judgment on Meloni’s actions to the voters: “The Italians will decide – he explains – that photograph with Meloni, which I consider sacrosanct, I hoped Conte would do it, that Gentiloni would do it, that he would do it Renzi, let anyone who in these 25 years have managed to bring home this man who was spending a life sentence in prison in America do it.”

Then the Salis question: “Can you explain to me why the bail hasn’t arrived yet? – asks the director – they paid it but they gave it to the lawyer and it still hasn’t arrived. Why didn’t it arrive? Why is there a hearing on Friday?”. Questions to the firm that Cerno explains: “If you want to free your daughter but how come they still don’t have bail in court? But he paid it, so where did this deposit stop? What will happen at the hearing on Friday? What are we waiting to see? Do we want to free this woman or do we want to campaign?”. The question posed by the director, however, warms the spirits in the studio and Angela Azzaro intervenes: “I find what Cerno says very serious. To say that the father or in any case the family purposely keeps the daughter in a state of imprisonment is to insinuate something very serious, Cerno. How does?”. Cerno, however, responds succinctly: “It’s a question”. Parenzo animates the discussion by asking Azzaro: “What is the subtext of that question?”. The Huffington Post journalist responds dryly: “He says that in order to campaign he keeps his daughter in the cage – explains Azzaro while Cerno is heard in the background asking “So where is the money?”, a question however that goes unheard.

Azzaro goes on the attack: “The electoral campaign was done by Giorgia Meloni, going to receive Chico Forti. He shouldn’t have gone there. It creates a problem of relations with the United States and makes it even more difficult for other prisoners to return to Italy – explains the journalist. However, Cerno is ironic about relations with the USA: “But imagine, the United States has much else to think about.” Azzaro who then closes her speech: “A Prime Minister cannot campaign in such a vulgar manner because she represents all citizens, she cannot campaign as if she were just any parliamentarian.” Forti – Salis: the controversy continues.
