Eurovision 2024: the press release from RTV Slovenija (Slovenia)

Below is the full translation.

Following the events and consequences of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Slovenian Television has forwarded some of the most pressing issues to the EBU management, which require answers and discussion. RTV Slovenija had already requested a professional discussion with the EBU even before the competition.

After this year’s Eurovision week, Slovenian Television, which traditionally handles the ESC project, has collected some of the most pressing issues resulting from this year’s edition and its side events.

We emphasize the fact that participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is an extremely important project for Slovenian TV and Slovenia, a high-profile event in our country and among our artists, and that RTV Slovenija is happy to be part of this story . This is why, after the controversies of this year’s Eurovision week, Slovenian Television demands concrete answers from EBU officials to the most urgent problems. At the same time, he wants these issues to stimulate a broader discussion about the future and development of the Eurovision Song Contest, which, as already noted, has unfortunately been marked by heated discussions this year.

Slovenian Television therefore asks the EBU for the voting data of the Slovenian public, and not just the numbers of votes, but the exact data on how the Slovenian public voted. The total result raises some doubts, especially among the large number of new online voters, who were not there before.

Slovenian Television, among other things, requests more precise explanations from the EBU regarding the exclusion of Netherlandson reports from some media about the use of technical means to replace the sound of what was happening in the arena live, on the ban on the EU flag, the possible influence of a sponsor on the content of the event.

Slovenian Television asks the EBU authorities to reconsider the introduction of voting Rest of the World. What is its meaning and why should citizens of countries not competing in the Eurovision Song Contest be able to influence the progress of the competition?

Last but not least, RTV Slovenija wants reflections on ways to more effectively include the opinion of EBU members in planning the selection and making of key decisions, or on how to establish a more democratic decision-making system.

Slovenia, this year in the final for the second consecutive edition, reached 23rd place (27 points) with “Veronika” by Raiven.
