There is a bit of Ferrara on the stage of the highly anticipated Eurovision Song Contest 2024. For the 68th edition of the annual singing competition, this year hosted at the Malmö Arena in Malmö, Sweden, from 7 to 11 May, there is he is also the Ferrarese dancer Andrea Marici, 33 years old, who for a month has been working for the show of the Georgian singer Nutsa Buzaladze, who for her song “Firefighter” has chosen an entirely ‘made in Italy’ cast, made up of two choreographers ( Miguel Wave & Luigi Allocca) and four dancers (in addition to Andrea Marici, Dante Gerlo, Daniele Nocchi and Nick de Souza). The American producer is the same as Jennifer Lopez.

“Nutsa Buzaladze is a wonderful artist, already an American Idol finalist, duetting with a pop icon like Kylie Minogue – says the dancer Andrea Marici -. I’m having an unusual experience with her: right from the start she wanted us all in Georgia to build the Eurovision show together. By doing so, in addition to contributing to the harmony between us, you also made me discover your nation better.”

Located on the border between Europe and Asia, once a Soviet Republic and even before that annexed to the Tsarist empire, in March 2022 Georgia submitted its application to join the European Union. In 2023 Brussels accepted its official candidacy, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Its geopolitical situation, still divided between Moscow and Europe in recent years, is under the spotlight of member states.

“It will be a performance with a strong impact, also thanks to the message of the song, in which Nutsa Buzaladze says ‘We build empires and then watch them burn’. How much more current? – Marici reflects – Man always tends to destroy what he has built. The only way to put out these fires is through love.”

As for the show, “we changed the choreography at least ten times, each time to perfect the show as best as possible: we wanted and want to give our best”, says the dancer from Ferrara, who now has more than 13 years of experience in the sector under his belt .

It’s difficult to choose, this time, for the dancer and performer from Ferrara whether to support Italy or Georgia. “Angelina Mango is very talented and she deserves to win. This year, however, my heart is in favor of the Georgian people, a very humble people, but driven by a great strength, who are trying to emerge and be reborn. The singer Nutsa Buzaladze represents hope for them.”

To follow the show from Italy: Eurovision will be broadcast on Rai 2 from around 9pm (after the evening news) for the two semi-finals (tonight and tomorrow, when both Italy and Georgia will perform), while the final it will be broadcast live on Rai 1 from around 8.35pm on Saturday evening until 1am. Everything will also be available in live streaming on the Rai Play app and website.
