Here we are. The May Day concert is back again today, on Labor Day. A fixed appointment, now, for lovers of music and more generally of entertainment, which however could be put to the test by the rain and adverse temperatures that are gripping the Capital. The concert is now part of Italian entertainment culture, capable of addressing social and economic issues with a musical background. A musical background that in recent years seems to have enriched itself, becoming more transversal. There have been many changes this year: from the management to the location. Here’s everything you need to know.
The theme of the Concertone
“Let’s build together a Europe of peace, work and social justice” is the slogan that CGIL, CISL and UIL have chosen for Labor Day 2024. Thus the three confederal unions dedicate the day of May Day 2024 to the strategic role of Europe as a builder of peace, work and social justice, in a historical moment crossed by many crises, environmental, social, up to too many wars still underway. The national event will be held in the city of Monfalcone, live on Rai3 from 12.10 to 12.55, and will include speeches by female and male delegates, pensioners and pensioners and will end with the rally of the three General Secretaries PierPaolo Bombardieri, Luigi Sbarra, Maurizio Landini.
The conductors
This year the Concertone is hosted by Noemi and Ermal Meta. The opening is instead entrusted to Big Mama. The appointment is not in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano but at the Circus Maximus.
Singers and lineup
The artistic line of the Concertone 2024 will develop around the concept “Let’s listen to the Future #1M2024”, with the intention of marking a new important stage in the musical narration that Primo Maggio has been carrying out for some time, in an attempt to tell the present of the fervent scene national music, imagining its future. No monologues
No monologues. This is the decision made by Massimo Bonelli, who has been organizing the event for 11 years. “The narration will be done only by the musicians” he declared. A choice that seems to want to defuse the possibility of any controversy, given the particularly delicate year that Rai is experiencing, accused by many parties of censorship. In fact, our thoughts turn to the Fedez case of 2021, when the rapper accused the management of wanting to silence his monologue (at the time the CEO was Carlo Fuortes and the Prime Minister Mario Draghi). Then last year there was the Carlo Rovelli case: the physicist attacked the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto in one of his monologues, so much so that the presenter Ambra apologized for the lack of cross-examination.
Where to follow the Concertone
An unmissable event, as always with free admission, which will begin at 1.15 pm with an opening hosted by Big Mama (exclusively for Rai Play), and then gets to the heart of things, presented by the new artistic couple Noemi and Ermal Meta, starting from 3.15 pm live on Rai 3 and until 00.15 am (with a break from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm for the news editions), as well as live on Rai Radio2, on RaiPlay and Rai Italia.
It will be a May Day to also listen and watch on Rai Radio2, the official voice of the Concertone which, from 4.00 pm until after midnight in simulcast with Rai 3, will broadcast the 2024 edition of the event in an unmissable marathon of emotions, music and fun. We start with the live broadcast by Diletta Parlangeli who will continue until around 7.00 pm, to return in connection around 8.00 pm with Carolina Di Domenico and Pier Ferrantini who will accompany the public until the end of the show.
From 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm on Rai Radio2 and on DTT channel 202, Ema Stokholma’s DJ set will be broadcast from the main stage of the event. Rai Radio2, which will broadcast from an exclusive backstage location created in collaboration with SIAE – Italian Society of Authors and Publishers, will host all the artists at the end of each performance to collect live comments and exclusive background information. Furthermore, new multimedia content will be available on the radio’s social channels with all the protagonists of the Concertone, from the rehearsals on 29 and 30 April and from the live broadcast on May 1st.
The contest
Like every year, the 3 winning artists of the 1MNEXT Contest will also perform on the stage of the May Day Concert: Atarde (Ancona), Giglio (Turin) and Moonari (Rome). One of the 3 will be chosen by the Artistic Direction of the event and awarded during live TV as the overall winner of 1MNEXT 2024.
