And how many things have changed a year later, in a tragic start to 2023 for the Block family: on Monday, January 2, in fact, the famous American rally driver, stuntman and entrepreneur Ken Block died in Utah due to an accident while he was driving a snowmobile. Famous for his revolutionary exploits and for his way of describing the extreme online, which over the years has set the standard and trained a generation of enthusiasts, Ken Block leaves an immense void in the world of motorsport at the age of 55.

Pilots, friends and athletes thus unite around the Block family and the grief of his wife Lucy and the couple’s three children. Her eldest, Lia Block, is certainly the one who in recent years has spent the most time next to her father, while she – touched by the same passion for engines and speed – made her way from a very young age into the world of engines. The protagonist of some of Ken’s videos, Lia is also at the center of the last social post published by her father a few hours after the tragic death: “Tomorrow on my YouTube channel at 8:00 PST the fourth and last episode of my daughter Lia, aged 16, who buys, tears down, rebuilds and now drives her 1985 Audi Ur Quattro“. A post accompanied by two photographs of Lia, both with the car bought by the girl, one showing the before the restoration and one the final result.

“Lia is thirteen years old – says Block in another video from a few years ago posted on her channel – she is a very good student, she always gets A in school, and every time she dedicates herself to something she does it completely. But she’s also a girl who has a lot of natural talent for thingsstarted running and driving when she was very young and loved it right away.”

A talent and predisposition that have linked her to her father since she was very young, making her stand out for skills and experience, and leading her to experiment in many fields of motorsport. At the age of 11 he made his debut in a rally race by crossing the finish line of the Lucas Off-Road Racing Seriesat the age of 13, dad Ken taught her to drift driving a 355 HP rear-wheel drive Ford Escort Gymkhana, at the age of 14 he received a drifting Mustang as a birthday present from his father and a lesson from Vaughn Gittin Jr, while at 15 she took the wheel of the beloved Hoonicorn Father’s Mustang RTR and took part, around the United States, in some important rallies for professionals, drag races and first experiences on the track.

A career, that of Lia Block, which promises great results and a glorious future following the path traced by the revolutionary father but, at the same time, a path that in these hours has been tinged with the colors of a tragic fate after the death of his beloved father Ken.
