The Councilor for Security, Civil Protection and Local Police of the Municipality of Genoa, Sergio Gambino, awarded the 57 employees, including officials and agents of the Local Police, who last summer in the Representative Hall of the Ligurian capital, voluntary service in Forlì after the flood of May 16th. A recognition which, moreover, the Municipality of Forlì had already formalized in recent months by sending each of the 57 employees of the Municipality of Genoa a certificate of merit, signed by the mayor Gian Luca Zattini.

A mission that lasted five weeks, from May 29 to July 7, and which involved the employees of the Municipality of Genoa for a total of 432 working days. Of these, 1 Civil Protection officer, 2 administrative officers, 1 socio-educational officer, 9 technical officers, 4 Local Police officers, 5 Civil Protection instructors, 11 administrative instructors, 1 socio-educational instructor, 2 technical instructors and 21 Local Police officers.

“Our gratitude goes to every single volunteer and employee who dedicated their time and skills to this mission – said the deputy mayor of Forlì, Vincenzo Bongiorno, in a remote video link -. The support of the Genoese team, for heart, professionalism and commitment, proved invaluable. In those delicate moments, the administrative, technical and emergency management skills of these people, accustomed to crisis situations and catastrophic events, proved to be decisive. Their support guaranteed added value to the reconstruction and safety process of our territory. I thank the effort and sacrifice of all of them, who made themselves available to the municipal machine both at the citizen assistance desks and on the territory with targeted interventions in the flooded areas and in support of the most fragile communities.”

The mission was set in motion on May 17th and officially activated on the 26th with the arrival of the first two teams in Forlì on May 29th. Since that day, the Genoese personnel have supported their counterparts from Romagna in the activities of on-site inspections for damage census, activation of emergency sums, planning activities for restoration and recovery of buildings and infrastructures; the administrative staff, on the other hand, have supported in the investigations of contingent and urgent measures, investigations of damage reports and requests to be associated in the investigations of administrative measures. The Forlì mission has carried out 784 expeditious inspections, 1170 practices relating to contributions and 10,534 preparations and deliveries of essential packages. The project was coordinated by Anci which combined the Genoese Civil Protection with the Municipality of Forlì and was born in 2018 with the involvement of the Italian metropolitan cities. The Municipality of Genoa had already provided its assistance early during the flood in the Marche.
