Important international recognition awarded to Vittorio Giannetti, Aerospace Propulsion researcher of the new research area in Space Technologies of the Institute of Mechanical Intelligence of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, who received the “Kuriki award for young professionals” from Electric Rocket Propulsion Society (ERPS). The award, whose relevance is recognized worldwide, is awarded on the occasion of the International Electric Propulsion Conference (Iepc), the most relevant international conference in the sector of satellite electric propulsion, organized every two years, in cities around the world. The 2024 edition concluded on Friday 28 June in Toulouse (France).

The award, intended for the researcher under 35 from the international community who has contributed most to progress in the field of satellite electric propulsion, was assigned for 2024 to Vittorio Giannetti with the following motivation: “For his contribution to the development of electric propulsion systems, such as the gridded ion thrusters for BepiColombo (a mission of the European Space Agency, Ed.), the electric air-puff propulsion, the magnetically shielded Hall thrusters and the electrospray thrusters”.

At the award ceremony, which took place during the conference gala dinner in Toulouse, Vittorio Giannetti expressed gratitude to colleagues with whom he had collaborated over the years. Thanks for their support were addressed to Mariano Andrenucci, a pioneering professor in the aerospace sector who recently passed away, and to Tommaso Andreussi, the professor in charge of the Space Technologies Research Area of ​​the Institute of Mechanical Intelligence of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.

Vittorio Giannetti said he was “honoured” and commented on his success as follows: “The recognition represents a great encouragement to continue working with curiosity, responsibility and dedication in the field of electric propulsion”.
