Today, Tuesday, the woman was able to return to her house for half an hour which was hit by the debris flow on Friday.

“The situation is truly tragic”: this is what a resident of Sorte said, who on Friday evening, together with her family, had to leave her house which was hit by the debris flow.

On Tuesday morning he was able to return to the house for the first time, but only for just over half an hour, the time needed to recover the bare minimum. “The house is full of mud, except for the top floor, and there is a very unpleasant smell,” she told the RSI newspaper.

The pouring arrived when the family – with three boys aged 10, 13 and 17 – had just finished dinner. «In the house the table is still set», she says, and then remembers what happened: «We got up because we heard a strange noise. And then we saw an avalanche of mud and rock, other houses that were swept away.”

The landscape they knew has completely changed

That evening the landscape they knew completely changed, in just a few moments. «When they took us away with the REGA helicopter, we felt like we were in another world».

Their home withstood the impact of the material. «The house behind ours acted, let’s say, as a bumper. We were really lucky: it could have been much worse.”

Now for them it will be a matter of moving on, because following the disaster they experienced, the family intends to move elsewhere. “Now we are staying in a bed and breakfast in the area, then we will have to find a suitable home for our family.”
