An Oscar-worthy route that crosses the green spine of Italy. From Liguria to Sicily, the 3,100 kilometers of the Apennine cycle route, which earned a special mention at the Italian cycle tourism Oscar, will have a single sign. There are 1,584 urban and extra-urban tourist information signs installed along the route that unites 14 regions and 300 municipalities. The first appointment for the inauguration of the new signs will be held tomorrow, Saturday 22 June, at 9.45 am, at Bocchetta di Altare, in the province of Savona, with the unveiling of the first sign of the cycle route. Then the cycle tourist parade, the official delivery of the stamp and a ride among the beauties of Altaro up to Cascina Miera, in the Adelasia Nature Reserve. The tour will continue until August 10th with events in each of the 44 stages and with the participation of hundreds of local and national institutions. During the various stages, the national sustainable development plan for the Apennines will be illustrated, which aims to structure governance for the internal areas of Italy. In this regard, thanks to Legambiente and Misura, the cycle route has been equipped with charging and assistance stations for e-bikes, one every seventy kilometers in all the stopover municipalities.

“This is a work of extreme value for the many small municipalities in Italy, financed by our ministry and supported over the years,” says the deputy minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Galeazzo Bignami. He adds: “To give a structure to the governance and future of the project we have put in place a monitoring of the signs and with the ministry we will also be ready to evaluate new projects for the growth of this path”. The deputy minister is in fact convinced that the small municipalities of these territories “will be able to benefit from important development and for this reason it is essential to continue in this direction”. Also for Enrico Della Torre, general director of Vivi Appennino, “the installation of the signs is the starting point for the development of these territories, on which we will build a national governance that will allow us to bring new economic and employment growth. Now we continue with the construction of the tourist product, the networking of the territories and the valorisation of the destination in a unitary way so that the Apennines can be organized and marketed on tourist markets all over the world”.
