The approval of the Calderoli bill represents a serious wound for the entire country. Differentiated autonomy promises a real territorial and social fracture, which will increase inequalities and disparities in the country, although its entry into force is subordinated to the difficult definition of the essential levels of performance, the LEP.

This is a dangerous step forward towards a Serie A and Serie B Italy, which sees the richer regions oriented towards progress and development, and relegates the poorer regions to an increasingly marginal role.

Federconsumatori has always declared itself against this unacceptable plan, claiming the unity of the country and the universality of fundamental rights, such as that of health (our recent study on the alarming state of waiting lists demonstrates this), education , at work, at safety, at protecting the environment.

With La Via Maestra we have been building, for over a year, a path of claiming and affirming the essential rights, enshrined in our Constitution, which we will continue to defend in every possible way.

For this reason we will be an active part of the mobilization for the abolition of this law, promoting, together with the over one hundred organizations and social forces that join La Via Maestra, the collection of signatures for a repeal referendum.

It’s a wonder that political forces that even in name refer to Italy then support a law that makes everyone’s homeland a stew, reducing it to 21 small states and thus trampling on the entire Risorgimento. The question remains what driving role such small and marginal entities can play, at an international level, in the context of political, economic and commercial relations. For the same reasons, if anything, it is Italy as a whole that needs broader alliances and unitary strategies in Europe.

We are convinced that our country does not need secessions and disparities, but, on the contrary, a serious commitment to the promotion of rights and the fight against economic and social inequalities.

We have always been committed to this and, for this reason, we are now mobilized to stop this real fragmentation of the State.
