He crashes into the wall, traffic goes crazy. The Vallina road is the queen of accidents

Another bad accident yesterday morning around 12.30 in the Vallina area of Bagno a Ripoli. Near the town centre, where the road is narrowest, on a bend a car going from Florence towards Pontassieve lost control – according to initial reconstructions. He hit the barrier protecting a wall that had been damaged in another accident a few days ago. Then he hit a car traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the first car was taken to hospital, but is not in serious condition. The traffic police, firefighters and an ambulance attended the scene. Serious repercussions on traffic immediately after the accident: the road, generally very busy, remained completely blocked for several dozen minutes. Promptly, the municipal police managed to restore vehicular transit, without affecting the rush hour when traffic on this road is very high.

It is yet another in a long list of more or less serious accidents. A few days ago the wall was damaged, then poles and walls were torn down (often not reported by those who did the damage), skidding and collisions. At the beginning of May, just to cite the most recent example, a car ended up semi-overturned in the middle of the road. Every day is a risk. Every time the citizens return to invoke the double bridge connecting Vallina, at the industrial area, and Compiobbi. It will allow commuter traffic to flow on both fronts, so as to reduce the impact of cars especially in the town of Vallina, where citizens are prisoners of traffic.

The funds for 55 million euros have been financed, the services conference has given the green light, the expropriations have begun. Now there are really no more obstacles to starting the technical phase leading to the work planned since 2005 and supported by Anas and the Ministry. The two now former mayors of Bagno a Ripoli and Fiesole left their successors the legacy of demanding an acceleration of a bureaucracy that was truly too long.
