Corn, soybean and barley prices rise again in May

But the prices of the three agricultural commodities remain below the 2023 level

The prices of corn, soybeans and barley increased in May compared to the previous month, although in most cases they remained below 2023 levels. In Milan the price of corn national contract 103 rose to 228.2 euros per ton, up 7.3% month over month, as well as that of the national product with characteristics which stopped at 232.2 euro/t (+6.6%). The price of EU corn also increased (+8.7%), trading at 238.4 euro/t, as did the price of French corn which rose to 219.1 euro/t (+8.9%). US corn prices also increased in May, with a variation of 3.3% m/m, and a value of 164.1 euro/t. However, current price levels remain well below May 2023 levels, with variations between 10% and 27%.

The price of soybeans rises in May

Also in May, prices also increased soy national listed in Milan, which reached 487.1 euro/t (+4.4% compared to April), as well as those of foreign soybeans which were traded at 485 euros/t (+2.8%). The prices of Brazilian soybeans (+3.3%) and US soybeans (+5.4%) also increased, trading at 395.2 euros/t and 391.7 euros/t respectively. The price of Cif Rotterdam soya rises to 453.4 euro/t (+3.3% compared to the previous month). The trend changes were negative on foreign markets (-13.8% for Brazil, -13.8% for Cif Rotterdam soya and -3.1% for the USA), while in Milan the comparison with last year is positive result and equal to 3.9% for national soybeans and 0.6% for foreign soybeans.

The price of barley is rising

In the period examined on the national market, the price ofbarley of community origin exchanged in Milan is gone up at 223.2 euro/t (+4.3%), just as an increase (+1.2%) affected the price of the product of national origin traded at 209.5 euro/t. French barley prices also increased (+10% compared to the previous month) traded at 214.4 euros/t, as well as Black Sea barley which rose to 182.6 euros/t (+7.9%) . The trend variations were all negative with values ​​from 4% to 18%.

Wheat going against the trend

On the Bologna market in May the prices of grain I am tender got off by 0.6% for a value of 325.5 euro/t, still remaining above the levels recorded in the same period last year (+11.9%).
