TRIESTE, JUNE 18 – “Mayor Roberto Dipiazza has signed an eviction order for the Silos of Trieste. The people will be accommodated elsewhere and it will not be a blitz”. There is, however, “a plan to accommodate other reception centres, not only in the region, as has always happened in the alleviation of migratory pressure. The structure will be freed because it is certainly not considered a suitable or adequate place. We are also imagining the creation of compensatory structures in the long term and we have also discussed this with the president of the Region. An alternative solution will be offered to the people found there.” Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said this during the press conference following the Trilateral with his counterparts from Croatia and Slovenia, answering a specific question. “The clearance operation – the minister reiterated – will not be a blitz to liberate the Silos, it will be an agreed operation which will probably also have a prolonged implementation phase, it will not be an instant operation”. The owner of the Interior Ministry said he found “strange” the criticism of the closure by those who defined the Silos itself as “a place of shame”. (HANDLE).
