Chieti. On the occasion of World Refugee Day, which is celebrated on 20 June, CGIL Chieti, in collaboration with FP CGIL Chieti and with the patronage of the Municipality of Vasto, organizes a discussion table open to citizens entitled “Submerged resources – the challenges for refugee policy”. The appointment is set for Thursday 20 June at 4.30 pm in the suggestive Neapolitan gardens of Palazzo d’Avalos in Vasto.

The event, which is part of the broader framework of initiatives promoted by the CGIL in support of refugees and migrants, intends to delve into the issues related to reception and integration, with a particular focus on the challenges and opportunities that the Abruzzo territory is facing. A specific in-depth analysis is planned on the “Cutro Decree” which contains urgent provisions regarding the legal entry flows of foreign workers and the prevention and fight against illegal immigration.

At a time when the issue of refugees is, as it has been for too long, overwhelmingly topical, it is essential to reflect on reception policies and the resources necessary to guarantee a dignified life for those forced to flee their countries. A commitment that must be guaranteed by all the actors involved, including central and local institutions.

The meeting, moderated by the journalist Paolo Di Sabatino, will see the participation of Francesco Menna, mayor of Vasto; Franco Spina, General Secretary of Cgil Chieti; Giuseppe Rucci; Provincial Secretary FP Cgil Chieti; Vincenzo Di Lorenzo, Cgil Chieti lawyer; Hamid Hafdi, CGIL Chieti cultural mediator and Maria Grazia Gabrielli, CGIL national secretary.

Furthermore, representatives of the Matrix Consortium, Versoprobo Scs, Anpi Vasto and the cloud cooperative society will also speak.

The testimonies of some refugees will enrich the debate, offering a valuable direct perspective on the challenges and hopes of those who live the experience of migration.

“The purpose of this meeting that we have organized – says Daniela Primiterra, CGIL Chieti confederal secretary – is to highlight that these people are important resources for our territory and must not become critical issues. Our commitment is aimed at ensuring that refugees have full social and working integration, through employment contracts capable of guaranteeing stability and dignity. In this, the commitment of the entire local community must be maximum, a commitment that is built through exchange, relationships and dialogue, to find all possible solutions. This, in a nutshell, is the theme of today’s meeting.”

At the end of the meeting, an “Ethnic aperitif without borders” will be offered, a moment of conviviality and intercultural exchange to encourage meeting and knowledge between different cultures.
