The idea is to meet in the recording studio for just one day, discuss, work on sounds and ideas, and come out with a finished song.
Only a few years ago such an initiative would have been science fiction. A recording session would have required cumbersome and expensive equipment, a full staff and considerable upstream planning. Certainly professional guitarists have long been familiar with digital sounds and DSPs accompany many of them when it comes to pre-productions or fixing ideas to then develop in the studio. Instead, arriving in an apartment room with a guitar, a sound card and a computer, and coming out a few hours later with a song ready for release is an exciting road to travel in 2024.
Both guitarists involved in the experiment have their own sound package by Neural DSP. Their plugins are collected under the Archetype series and differ in style, sounds and the virtual “equipment” that they have decided to include.

Three amplifiers traverse a somewhat traditional sonic palette, with a modern focus on intelligibility and articulation. We start from the clean lines of a retro British style amplifier to move on to those of a modern American style model, ending with a lead with medium level gain designed to provide dynamic and responsive playing to the touch.
The equipment is completed by a nine-band equalizer and echo and reverb post effects.

The first amplifier was created for a crystalline and defined clean, the second instead designs a slightly rippled crunch inspired by crunchy and present British tones, and the third and last virtual amplifier was created for a distorted sound capable of pushing the previous sound into lead territories, going particularly ‘agree with extended range guitars.
The equalizer is not missing, as are the post effects of chorus, delay and reverb.
In both packages there is an effect capable of transposing the signal up to +/- 12 semitones and doubling the guitar track in the stereo panorama to recreate a studio doubler.
Cabinet simulators, IR Loader, tuner and metronome complete the package.
Usable in the DAW or as a stand alone, the Archetype systems intend to put the idea of electric guitar plugins in a new light, and the qualitative peaks created by the manufacturer of the Quad Core Cortex suggest that digital still has a lot to tell for the future period.
