Gennargentu-Mandrolisai, meeting with the governor Alessandra Todde on 24 June in Sorgono. «Eleven municipalities, eleven municipal councils. One direction only”

“Eleven municipalities, eleven municipal councils. Only one direction.” This is the initiative promoted by the administrators of the Municipalities of the Gennargentu-Mandrolisai mountain community to draw attention to the serious lack of services that afflicts the area and which over time paralyzes development and denies citizens essential rights. Health, education, work, transport, roads, environment and landscape protection are the topics that will be discussed in the event to be held in They arise on June 24th, at 10am, at the Murgia theater.

For the occasion, 11 municipal councils were convened: Aritzo, Atzara, Austis, Belvì, Desulo, Gadoni, Meana Sardo, Ortueri, Sorgono Teti and Tonara. The President of the Region, Alessandra Todde, was invited to the joint session of the municipal bodies and expressed her willingness to participate.

The appeal

«The situation of public services in the area is reaching disarming levels – the mayors say in chorus – and we have not yet seen real and concrete measures that can reduce the gap between the area and other areas of the island. Ours is a penalized territory, in constant trouble, which can no longer wait for policies that are struggling to even be thought of.” In short, the mayors of the Gennargentu-Mandrolisai mountain community are not giving up and want to make themselves heard. They complain of serious shortcomings in public health, education, transport and active workplace policies, where companies locals are tormented by a crisis that here has the flavor of mockery.

«We have often sought dialogue with the Sardinia Region – continue the first citizens – but the political approach has not helped much, also in light of the fact that the situation not only is not improving but is continually worsening.”

The president of the mountain community, as well as mayor of Atzara, Alessandro Corona adds: «The synergy between our Municipalities is total and the mayors intend to make concrete proposals to be able to launch effective interventions in the territory.

We represent a population that with dignity and tenacity has been civilly demonstrating for years against a deaf and blind system that has not produced positive results.” Corona adds: «Generalized discontent is not enough to stimulate politics to offer concrete solutions. From children who cannot be treated, through to the elderly who have to bend over backwards for a simple visit to the GP who has practically disappeared from our centres. Or, let’s think about the businesses in difficulty, the jobs that don’t exist. Not to mention the damaged roads and insufficient transport.

We cannot continue to think that depopulation must be fought with “Baby Bonuses”: depopulation must be fought by ensuring that all the services that guarantee people to live a life worth living are active. Because a citizen who lives in a rural area is a courageous person, who deserves the same dignity as those people who have chosen to live in other areas of Sardinia.” Alessandro Corona concludes: «As mayors we address the citizens, the associations, the businesses, the trade union forces and the committees, to ensure that the meeting on June 24th is as well attended as ever».
