The sign of water it’s everywhere you look, in the walls, in the ceilings, in the trees, reminding you of a part of your life swept away. This one new solo exhibition by Andrea Bernabinicurated by Serena Simoni set up at Palazzo San Giacomo Of Russians.

Sixty images the result of documentation with a strong artistic imprint, which focuses on floods of May 2023 inviting the public to ask themselves questions about the future of our territory, in particular on the relationship with the ecosystem on which we depend.

Immediately after the disaster, documentation work was activated which testified and objectified the enormity of the event: the protagonists were women and men who employed the photography between art and documentation.

Among these, Andrea Bernabini paid the price of living in a flooded area and – after the first intervention to save his house and studio – looked for a response to damage through one’s artistic workor.

The exhibition will be divided into three nuclei: video interviews, photographic diptychs and a series of iconic images. The emotional approach with the people involved emerges in the intense interviews with people who have lost everything and have seen the foundations of their identity undermined; the series of diptychs – The faces of the flood – works on pairs of people and spaces or objects in which the millimetric compositional balance reinforces the iron curtain that preserves the loss, a relationship of gazes and spaces involved in the disaster, while in the iconic shots the footprints of the flood are captured, such as the lands transformed into mud deserts, the kilometre-long strips of waste in landfills or the red tides of polluting materials, a metaphysical result of the metamorphosis of the territory.
