Mourning in Fincantieri. This morning he was found dead Claudio Graziano, president of the company. Graziano, general and former Chief of Defense Staff as well as president of the European Union Military Committee, had been at the helm of Fincantieri since 2022.

The company “expresses immense pain for the sudden passing of General Claudio Graziano, President of the Group, which leaves a large and unbridgeable void”, reads an official reaction from the company. “The CEO and general manager Pierroberto Folgiero, the Board of Directors, the Board of Statutory Auditors, the managers and all the employees of Fincantieri remember it with emotion extraordinary human and professional qualities which have always distinguished him in his long career.”
«The passing of General Claudio Graziano leaves me speechless. He was a friend and was an extraordinary officer who brought honor to Italy even in his European roles. May a prayer accompany him on the journey to reach his bride”, the Foreign Minister wrote in X Antonio Tajani.
“Deeply saddened by the death of General Claudio Graziano,” he said Lorenzo Guerini, former Minister of Defense. “I remember him with friendship and with the highest esteem for his work in the service of the State. May the earth be light on him.”
The news of the death of the president of Fincantieri had an impact on the stock drops by 3% below 5 euros.
Who was Claudio Graziano
Born in Turin in 1953, Claudio Graziano began his training at the Military Academy of Modena from 1972 to 1974, followed by the Application School of Turin from 1974 to 1976, where he obtained a degree in Military Strategic Sciences. Subsequently, he obtained degrees in Diplomatic and International Sciences at the University of Trieste, completed a Master’s degree in Strategic Sciences and a university specialization in Human Sciences at the Augustinian Academy in Rome.
Having entered the army in 1974 as an infantry officer, Alpine speciality, Claudio Graziano held various positions of command and responsibility. In 1976 he was commander of a rifle platoon at the “Susa” alpine battalion of Pinerolo and in 1977 Deputy Commander of the anti-tank company of the “Taurinense” Alpine Brigade. He subsequently commanded the mortar company in 1980 and the Alpine company (riflemen) at the “Trento” Alpine battalion of the “Tridentina” Alpine Brigade, from 1983 to 1986 he commanded the Officer Cadets company and the Command company at the Alpine Military School of Aosta .
Since 16 May 2022, Claudio Graziano has held the position of President of the Board of Directors of Fincantieri SpA, while from 28 September 2022 it was the President of Assonave (National Association of the shipbuilding industry).
The growth of Fincantieri
Claudio Graziano has always been a convinced supporter of defense of Ukraine and he had also promoted the need to accelerate the establishment of a European army. Thanks to his vast experience at an international level, he played a decisive role in orienting Fincantieri’s business, after Bono’s 20 years as president.
Just over a year ago, Fincantieri’s industrial plan until 2027 was officially presented to the market. This plan is based on several pillars: in addition to the core business, it includes the development of digital platforms to optimize ship management and reduce operating costs for shipowners throughout the lifecycle of ships. Other key objectives are the integration of systems between the various sectors in which Fincantieri operates, the achievement of leadership in the sector of zero-emission ships and rigorous financial control.
All programs that had led the company to create a +21.9%, a noteworthy result in the European Defense panorama and which has led Fincantieri to be in ninth place among the companies that have grown the most in the Defense sector.
