The parish of Taurianova (diocese of Oppido Mamertina-Palmi) and the sanctuary of Montagna di Polsi (diocese of Locri) signed a twinning yesterday on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the Miracles that occurred in Taurianova. In fact, around the second half of the eighteenth century, the cult of the Madonna della Montagna of Polsi also reached the town of Piana and in 1786 it received a gift of a sacred effigy of the Madonna della Montagna which, in 1894, “traced” the history of the city of Taurianova with “the prodigious signs of the miracle of the movement of the eyes and the appearance of the cross on the moon”, we read in a note. The twinning was signed yesterday by the parish priest of Taurianova, Don Mino Ciano and by the rector of the Sanctuary Don Tonino Saraco: a twinning that “establishes, between the two communities, a bond that becomes a relationship of exchange, meeting and mutual knowledge”. “I won’t hide from you my great emotion in experiencing this moment and I thank Don Tonino who immediately accepted this desire of mine”, said the parish priest Don Ciano, immediately after the signing: “The people of Taurianova are very devoted to the Madonna of the Mountain and today this even stronger bond has been created with a commitment every year to return to the sanctuary to renew our devotion; therefore, for me it is truly a great sign that Maria is showing to the Tauriano community, because everything we have thought, placed at her feet, despite the difficulties, is coming true”. “I immediately accepted Don Mino’s proposal – stated the rector Don Tonino Saraco – because this twinning is good for the sanctuary and in this place there is a need for concrete actions rather than words”. Among the upcoming events of the 130th anniversary of the Miracles, from 1st to 4th July, the workshops for children and adults for the creation of votive stars, which will illuminate the city during the novena of the Madonna della Montagna, from 30th August to 7th September, the in which the relic of the Holy Cross will arrive in Taurianova from Polsi.
