Rome, 17 June 2024 – The general Claudio Grazianopresident of Fincantieri, was found dead this morning. He was born in Turin in 1953.
Former Chief of Defense Staff – from February 2015 to November 2018 – and president of the EU military committee, he had been appointed president of the Italian public company in 2022. Graziano had recently lost his wife: among the causes of death, suicide cannot be excluded.
The general was found lifeless at 9.50 am by a policeman of his escortwho had the second key to his apartment in historic center of Rome. It was he who raised the alarm. The body he was lying on the bedthere was a note nearby.
Immediate repercussions on the stock market upon the news of Graziano’s death: Fincantieri loses more than 3 percent.
“The passing of General Claudio Graziano leaves me speechless. He was a friend and he was one extraordinary officer who brought honor to Italy also in his European roles. May a prayer accompany him on the journey to reach his bride”, is the message of the deputy prime minister and foreign minister Antonio Tajani on X.
Fincantieri expresses in a note “immense pain for the sudden passing of General Claudio Graziano, president of the Group, who leaves a great legacy unbridgeable void”. The CEO and general manager Pierroberto Folgierothe Board of Directors, the Board of Statutory Auditors, the managers and all the employees of Fincantieri “remember with emotion the extraordinary human and professional qualities which have always distinguished him in his long career”, concludes the note.
