Serino, theft from the ATM: asbestos alert after the explosion

Explosive attack on ATM of the Serino post office. The cash kept inside the postamat in via Sala Fontanelle was taken away by the commando.

The loot needs to be quantified, but it is huge. The explosion was powerful. It woke up the residents of the hamlet around 3.30 am. Mayor Vito Pelosi, as a precaution, issued an order inviting citizens in the area to keep windows and doors closed until further notice. And this is due to the risk of asbestos, contained in some post office panels blown up with the explosion. The results of the findings by Arpac are awaited.

The other night to act, most likely, a gang of professionals who managed to take away the loot in a few minutes. Carabinieri patrols rushed to the scene. Residents were awakened by the loud bang and rushed into the street in fear. In support of the carabinieri of the Solofra company, who are investigating the episode, the soldiers of the Bomb Squad intervened to verify the presence of any explosive residues.

Images of the post office video surveillance cameras, but also those taken from other facilities located near the post office. The frames may have captured useful details to try to trace the identity of the criminals. We therefore think of a coup carried out by a gang made up of several people, perhaps coming from outside the province. A coup completed in a matter of minutes. When the police intervened, the criminals had already fled. After Alta Irpinia, Baronia and the Mandamento, which have recorded similar episodes in recent weeks, now the Alta Valle del Sabato also finds itself having to deal with gangs that attack the ATMs of banks and post offices.

Expert people who move according to a very specific plan, with defined tasks for the various components of the command. They most likely study the places in the previous days to have a complete picture of everything and then go into action. In Serino, there is now the problem of verifying whether there are asbestos particles in the atmosphere that are dangerous to health.

Mayor Pelosi immediately signed an ordinance to avoid any risk to the population which is located close to the post office: «Considering the concrete possibility that the given situation could represent an actual danger to the health of the population, the mayor writes – starting from 16 June and until further notice, which will be prepared following the results of the analyzes on asbestos fibers carried out by Arpac itself, the closure of the windows and openings of all properties located within a radius of 500 meters from the post office”.
