Fiat Grande Panda, which engine will the hybrid version have? The FireFly or the PureTech?

Let’s go back to talking about the new Fiat Grande Panda 2024, a car unveiled a few days ago by Stellantis, as a teaser in view of the big presentation which will take place on 11 July 2024, in less than a month.

Stellantis has issued a statement somewhat “generalist” in which details on the technical characteristics of the new Fiat Grande Panda were not provided, an understandable move for not “get burned” next month’s presentation, consequently only hypotheses can be made regarding the motor that the new city car, or rather, the new B-SUV will mount, in its thermal/light hybrid version.

Two would seem to be the most popular options, starting with the good old engine 1.0 FireFly with 70 horsepower, which in recent years has equipped millions of Fiat Pandas, the version that will be replaced by the Pandina, the most technological and smartest ever, but also Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon. It is an almost indestructible light hybrid engine, highly tested and with very few problems, which could be perfect for a car like the new Panda.

The second option is instead that of 1.2 PureTech turbo with 100 horsepower, therefore an engine with a larger displacement and more horsepower. This is a choice that could be plausible as it is already found on the Citroen C3, which is the twin of the Panda. The MHEV engine, (mild hybrid), is also mounted on the Lancia Ypsilon and is combined with the automatic gearbox although the Panda could be fitted with a version with manual gearbox.

According to some circulating rumors, however, it seems that the 1.2 PureTech is currently a bit lacking to the point that it would not be able to satisfy demand, and furthermore the FireFly are produced at Termoli, Stellantis plant that needs work. We await more certain news on this matter, but these would seem to be the most suitable engines to move the new Panda, which we remember will also be expected in electric with a 44 kWh LFP battery with 320 km of autonomywith the addition of another 200 km of which, however, the specifications are not yet known.
