Montefalcone without water, taps closed even during the day

Due to the serious water shortage that has hit the country, the flow of water, which was previously suspended only at night, is now reduced to just 5 hours a day. The mayor was forced to issue a new ordinance that further reduced the hours in which water reaches citizens’ homes. An ordinance had already been issued last October which rationalized the use of water resources at night but this measure was not sufficient to resolve the ongoing water crisis that afflicts the country.
«Our local springs, due to the absence of precipitation and the continuation of the drought period – we read in the union order – have reduced the quantity of water resources injected into the tanks by approximately 60% compared to the same period in 2022. The shape of the infrastructure and the municipal water network, with such low resource levels, does not allow us to guarantee a continuous water service throughout the municipal territory without carrying out sectoral closures of the network, guaranteeing a maximum of 5 hours of supply per day per sector”. Therefore these are the new timetables: 1. Lower area (Via Garibaldi, Via Margherita, Via Roberti, Via Venezia and respective alleys) suspension of service from 6.00 pm to 1.00 pm the following day; reduction of water pressure in via Vittorio Emanuele II, Via Amedeo, Via Orto la Corte, Via Alfredo Petti, Via Calvario, Zona Convento; Upper area (Via I° Sannita, Via II° Sannita, Via Cuoco, Via V. Emanuele III, Via San Giacomo and respective alleys) suspension of service from 1pm to 6pm the following day, reduction in water pressure in via Venezia.; 3. Iermana and Ginestrete area: suspension of service from 1.15pm to 8.15am the following day, reduction of water pressure in Contrada Bucache; 4. Defenza Zone: suspension of service from 1.30pm to 8.30am the following day. With the same ordinance, the withdrawal of drinking water for watering public and private lawns was also prohibited; for the withdrawal of water for washing courtyard areas and yards; for washing private vehicles, excluding that carried out by car washes; the filling of ornamental fountains, garden basins and swimming pools on private areas. Naturalistic fountains and bodies of water with the presence of fish fauna and flora are excluded from the ban. Upon motivated request, exemptions may be granted for technical-operational reasons capable of jeopardizing future restoration. Furthermore, until further notice there is a ban on the use of drinking water for all uses other than food, domestic and hygienic.
