BARLETTA – Zero tolerance against “urban fires” by the Municipality of Barletta. A phenomenon which unfortunately affects the city of the Disfida “in an alarming manner” both due to the very high temperatures associated with the summer period and the unpleasant circumstance of large unkept public and private areas which present real “powder kegs” due to the presence of grass dry and tall, not mowed for months and consequently extremely dangerous. In this regard, a municipal ordinance has been issued to stem these phenomena which are also fueled by the uncivilized behavior of those who, for example, start a real fire by throwing a cigarette butt on the street.
In fact, just a few days ago, the hard work of the Barletta Fire Brigade was necessary to contain the damage of a stubble and brush fire that broke out on private land located close to the 16 Bis state road at the Barberini-Patalini exit. Fortunately there was no damage to people or vehicles, however the acrid smoke caused many worries for the inhabitants of the area.
Mayor Cosimo Cannito has made his own, through a specific ordinance, the «Declaration of the state of serious danger for forest fires throughout the entire territory of the Puglia Region. Year 2024″ which will last until September 30th.
«The provision orders the owners, tenants, tenants and managers of rustic land, land, surfaces and areas of any nature and their appurtenances cultivated and/or uncultivated, at rest and/or abandoned in the municipal territory, to carry out within the deadlines the necessary defense and fire prevention works are foreseen by the provision, through cleaning and removal of any flammable material”, is written in a note from Mayor Cannito.
It is also noted that “the tenants and tenants, in any capacity, of production facilities and industrial plants (including abandoned sites), the gas network manager, the railway management companies, Anas are also required to comply with the provision , the Apulian Aqueduct, the Società Autostrade, the local public bodies and the Reclamation Consortia with regard to the cleaning and removal, in the areas of their respective competence in the municipal territory, of all materials potentially causing fires” and that until 30 September the burning of stubble, straw, agricultural plant residues and spontaneous vegetation are prohibited.
«We are faced with a phenomenon – declared the Mayor – which is repeated in an alarming way. I once again urge the owners of private lands to keep them clean of brush and stubble as they are easily flammable also due to the high temperatures of this period. As an administration we will be vigilant and will do our best to safeguard everyone’s health and safety.”
