Riot in the pre-trial detention center in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. Six prisoners for terrorism, accused of belonging to ISIS, took two prison guards hostage for a few hours, before being killed by the soldiers who intervened. “During a special operation, the criminals were eliminated and the employees taken hostage were released and were not injured,” the penitentiary services said in a statement.
According to Tass, citing the police, the hostages were an operational officer and an inspector-supervisor. The kidnappers, armed with a knife, rubber truncheon and a fire axe, asked for a car to leave the centre. According to the authorities, the prisoners were held in different cells, but there was a connection between them and the hostage taking had been in preparation for several months. An investigation is underway to understand whether the action was coordinated from the outside.

The head of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service for the Rostov region, as well as representatives of the law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor’s office attended the scene of the accident. Traffic was limited in the streets adjacent to the pre-trial detention center and the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management asked motorists to choose alternative routes.
