According to what was revealed by the Rai journalist Alberto Rimedio, a can would have grazed him but fortunately without consequences. The news, however, was denied by the Dortmund police inspector.
Remedy reports but is denied
The episode was reported by Alberto Rimedio, contacted by our editorial staff: “As I said on commentary, they threw a can and it hit the station, a few centimeters from me. Luckily he didn’t catch me or Antonio Di Gennaro. That’s all”. What is being discussed is not the throwing of objects per se, which is evident and with the Rai station being the victim of the “goliardy” of some Albanian fans. The Dortmund police inspector denied Rimedio’s version, speaking of plastic cups and not cans.

So let’s go and record the version of the Dortmund police inspector who happens to be Italian. His name is Nino Rana, originally from Naples, and very active on social media where he often talks about his demanding activity. Here’s what he said on his Facebook account: “As head of security in Dortmund I am forced to categorically deny what was told by RAI journalist Alberto Rimedio… the match commentator declared on Notti Europea… that he was saved from having cans thrown at his position. No cans, at most a few plastic glasses that flew during Albania’s protest for the corner kick at the end of the match… but not directed at him…“.
The dig at Rimedio: “Don’t create alarmism”
Then came the sharp, direct dig aimed at Alberto Rimedio from Inspector Rana: “There is no point in creating controversy on an evening where there were no clashes between fans and where public order was impeccable… be journalists and don’t create false and useless alarmism“. However, the unpleasant episode remains, waiting to clarify – if it ever happens – which objects were actually thrown by the Albania fans. Controversy over for now? We’ll see if a rejoinder arrives from Rai.
