Disbelief and bewilderment: these are the feelings with which the trade organizations that constitute Agrinsieme Sicily (Confagricoltura, CIA and Copagri) reacted to the news that the Ars Productive Activities commissionwhich was supposed to meet on Friday and decide on vouchers to Sicilian farmers most affected by the drought to get the foragewas postponed due to lack of quorum to Tuesday 18 June.
«A very serious fact – he comments Agrinsieme Sicily– which denotes an embarrassing irresponsibility on the part of the regional political class. In the meeting last June 3rd with President Schifani we judged the voucher instrument as not very effective, suggesting that economic compensation be provided for farmers, but ultimately accepting it out of a spirit of responsibility and in consideration of the need for urgent support of any kind, given the ongoing emergency situation due to the drought. Learning now that the little that has been achieved is faltering due to the irresponsibility of a ruling class that, perhaps, is already on holiday, while animals are dying and production is at risk, is really too much.”
«We are tired of making appeals – concludes Agrinsieme -, we are beyond decency. We remind the regional political class of its responsibilities towards Sicilian breeders and farmers. The times for the survival of animals and plants without water are much shorter than the convenient and easily extendable ones of politics.”
