On the morning of June 14th, at the Government Palace, a meeting was held for the joint examination of the prevention and fight against forest fires and interface measures to be implemented in this province, in view of the approaching season summer.

The meeting – chaired by the Prefect of Frosinone Ernesto Liguori – was attended by, among others, the Regional Director of Civil Protection Emergency and NUE 112 of the Lazio Region, the Mayors of the Municipalities headquarters of the Mixed Operational Committees (COM) envisaged by the civil protection plan provincial (Anagni, Ferentino, Fiuggi, Alatri, Frosinone, Supino, Ceccano, Ceprano, Sora, Colfelice, Pontecorvo, Atina, Cassino, Sant’Elia Fiumerapido, San Donato Val di Comino, San Giorgio a Liri)representatives of the Police Forces and Fire Brigades, the bodies that own roads and infrastructures, including ANAS, ASTRAL, Autostrade per l’Italia, Rete Ferrovie dello Stato, ENEL.

The Prefect of Frosinone, after greeting and thanking those present, recalled the address of 6 May with which the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies identified the time frame for carrying out forest firefighting activities for the 2024 summer season (15 June – 15 October) and provided recommendations for more effective action to combat fires and the resulting risks.

Furthermore, a careful analysis was carried out of the initiatives to be implemented for prevention purposes, including the cleaning and maintenance of vegetation, especially along road and railway sections, and the protection of sites of landscape, archaeological and cultural, especially if affected by significant tourist flows.

Subsequently, the Deputy Provincial Commander of the Fire Brigade and the Regional Director of Emergency, Civil Protection and NUE 112 of the Lazio Region spoke, presenting a summary of the activities carried out during the 2023 forest fire campaign, focusing on the most critical areas and illustrating the intervention model of the operational structures respectively represented.
The need for Municipalities to update their respective civil protection plans was also highlighted, with specific reference to the risk of urban-rural interface fires and taking into account any settlements close to wooded areas.

The meeting was also an opportunity to take stock of the resources and devices put in place and to underline the need for maximum information circularity to always be guaranteed between all the subjects involved, maintaining constant contacts through the operational structures dedicated to starting from the alert phase and in the subsequent intervention management phases.
All participants shared the need to strengthen a coordinated and integrated approach between the various components of the civil protection system, in order to strengthen the system’s overall response capacity and limit the risks to public and private safety in the event of an event. .
