Marciszewska from ITIS Torricelli wins CyberTrials 2024

Magdalena Irena Marciszewska has reached an important milestone for ITIS “E. Torricelli” of Sant’Agata di Militello, winning the third edition of the CyberTrials, a renowned national cybersecurity competition held in Turin from 6 to 9 June 2024. Marciszewska, student of the 4CI Informatics class, competed together with Veronica Barbati of ITIS Montani of Fermo and Giovanna Castiglione of the ITIS “Leonardo Da Vinci” of Trapani, forming the “404 Name Not Found” team.

The competition, hosted at the ITC ILO (International Training Center · International Labor Organization) campus, saw the participation of 20 finalist teams from all over Italy. The six-hour challenges tested the teams’ cybersecurity skills. Marciszewska’s group stood out by solving the greatest number of challenges, obtaining not only the victory but also recognition for the best presentation of the work done.

The awards ceremony, visible from minute 1:10:50 of the official video of the event, celebrated the excellence of the participants, emphasizing the importance of supporting young talents in cybersecurity. Magdalena, with her teammates, demonstrated notable IT skills and collaborative skills, an achievement that represents an important step towards gender diversity in the technology sector. The “Torricelli” Institute celebrates this year the 50th anniversary of its autonomy from Verona-Trento, an event made even more significant by this success.

Headteacher Tamara Micale expressed great pride in the exceptional result achieved by the students, underlining the quality of the education offered. The teachers of the Department of Computer Science, Prof. Fabrizio Nocifora and Prof. Salvatore Mazzurco, also expressed particular satisfaction: “We are grateful and proud for the goal achieved, in the hope that it will be the first of a long series by ITIS ‘Evangelista Torricelli’ of Sant’Agata di Militello (ME)”. Magdalena Marciszewska commented on the experience with enthusiasm: “It was an incredible experience that allowed me to grow in my skills and personal abilities. Working with Veronica and Giovanna was fantastic and we demonstrated that with commitment and collaboration great results can be achieved.”

The CyberTrials has as its main objective to encourage young women to take up cybersecurity, a rapidly growing sector vital for protecting information in the digital age. The victory of the “404 Name Not Found” team represents not only a personal success for the female students, but also a significant contribution to promoting gender diversity in technology.
