Away from Germany to Novara to support the «Don Aldo Mercoli» day club. Music and charity come together tonight at 9pm in the Basilica of San Gaudenzio where, for the «Notes of Solidarity» concert, the Rottenburg Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will play. Free entry, in support of the city’s historic institution for the elderly. The formation will perform pieces by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Saint-Saens, Reinecke, Hübler, Gade.

It is not the first time that the «Junge Philharmonie Rottenburg» has performed in Novara. Roswitha Geiger, who in the past directed the facility for elderly people and is now president of the new Casa di giorno volunteer association, organizer of the solidarity evening, says: «A friendship born years ago binds us with the Rottenburg orchestra. They have already been our guests in 2010, when their director Albert Geiger and the musicians also personally met our founder Don Aldo. They were willing to come back and so we organized a new concert to support the activities.”

The Rottenburg Philharmonic was founded in 2000 and consists of around fifty young musicians. The repertoire ranges from baroque to the 20th century, from classical to musical, to film music and pop music arrangements. For tonight’s concert in the Basilica a classical program was chosen, mainly with nineteenth-century authors. Soloists Eric Cyrclaff on violin; Clemens Höschle, Cora Lensch, Franziska Heumesser, Sarah-Michelle Renz on horns.

From the first moment, the volunteers of the Day House were the daily driving force of the activities and services, facilitating the guests throughout the day. «Since 1998 – says Geiger – we have been organized in the ODV “Nuova Casa di Giorno volunteer association” which includes around forty people who, having embraced the mission, make a difference in the lives of guests and in the community». Even those who cannot attend the concert have the opportunity to support activities for the elderly by contacting 0321 391887 or writing to [email protected].
