“The flood made our identity emerge more forcefully”

Exactly 70 years after its establishment, Cna Forlì-Cesena has reopened its provincial headquarters, heavily affected by the flood of May 2023, with welcoming, renovated and reorganized premises. The inauguration was attended by the mayor Gian Luca Zattini, the undersecretary Vincenzo Bignami, the deputy Alice Buonguerrieri, the regional councilors Massimiliano Pompignoli and Massimo Bulbi, the president of the Chamber of Commerce Carlo Battistini, representatives of the trade associations and national and regional representatives by Cna. The vicar of the bishop Don Enrico Casadei imparted the blessing of the premises.

The provincial president Lorenzo Zanotti, in emotionally recalling the days following the dramatic flood, spoke of “a concrete sign of resilience and restart, with the contribution of the companies that brought their professionalism and competence”. He thanked “all the rescuers, who carried out their work with great competence and humanity”, but also remembered the volunteers: “They called them ‘mud angels’, but they can be defined as the ‘angels of the restart’, because since immediately, in front of people petrified by having lost everything, they gave humanity and enthusiasm that allowed people to react”.

The provincial president underlined the concept of “team”, “which allowed us to restart in a few days despite the difficulties, a complex machine with 22 offices and 320 people to be completely reorganised. Our employees carried out their work with the usual competence”. In those days, Zanotti continued, the sense of community prevailed in the Cna world, activating a fundraiser for the affected associated companies and concrete gestures. “But we must not be fooled by the fact that where there was mud there is no longer any or that the companies have restarted. There are still many problems and we must all come together to resolve them as soon as possible, from compensation to the protection of the territory , because it is a challenge that can be overcome as a community as a whole. As Cna, our duty is to keep the spotlight on this issue at all institutional levels.”

“It is important to know that we are part of a community, of which we have been part for 70 years, and to live it – began the director of Cna, Franco Napolitano -. It’s a day that brings out emotions and makes you proud. We have restored 1500 square meters of area, including the patronage office and the square. We have tried to make this place more welcoming both for businesses and for the hundreds of people who work. We managed to turn a problem into an opportunity. It was a significant stress test, but in the difficulties we had the opportunity to understand that we are able to overcome obstacles, sharing efforts and commitment. The concept remains that all together we make perspective our beacon for the future. In restoring these rooms we have given meaning to our work, making our identity re-emerge more forcefully”. As regards the works, “we have chosen solutions oriented towards energy saving, with specific attention to environmental issues. We have also improved the acoustics, but also the lighting system.”
