Riccardi, prevention of forest fires in Sardinia

It is an opportunity for training and updating Udine, 15 June – The Regional Council has approved, on the proposal of the regional councilor for Health with responsibility for Civil Protection, Riccardo Riccardi, the participation of the regional civil protection system of Friuli Venezia Giulia in the prevention activities from forest fires organized by the Civil Protection Department in Sardinia approximately from 12 July to 11 August and to authorize the overall expenditure of 98 thousand euros.

“This experience, which falls within the scope of the forest firefighting twinning campaign promoted by the National Civil Protection Department – explains Riccardi – constitutes an important opportunity for training and updating of volunteers through comparison with other regional civil protection entities. It is also a verification of the field response capacity at different levels of fire emergency, evaluation of the level of professionalism and organizational capacity of the regional system as well as the functionality and suitability of the equipment, vehicles and materials”.

“For the protection of the territory and the fight against forest fires – assures Riccardi – a sufficient number of volunteers specializing in forest firefighting and the related equipment will remain in the region to guarantee timely intervention in the event of fires in the regional territory”.

In detail, from July 12th to August 11th, prevention and control activities in the territory, active fight and rescue, logistical support and support for territorial institutions and training are planned. The mobile column will be made up of FVG civil protection officials, staff from the regional forest management and volunteers specializing in forest firefighting as well as pick-up vehicles with fire-fighting equipment and logistics vehicles.
