BARI – The G7 countries are “united in support” of an agreement for the Middle East that guarantees an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of Israeli hostages and “a credible path to peace leading to a two-state solution”: you read it in the declaration adopted at the end of the summit in Borgo Egnazia.

The document also asks “accelerated and significant growth in humanitarian assistance” for the benefit of the Palestinian population victim of the conflict. Another passage of the declaration is dedicated to Rafah, the city in southern Gaza targeted by the Israeli army. The G7 is a warning. “We are deeply concerned by the consequences on the civilian population resulting from the ongoing ground operations in Rafah and by the possibility of a large-scale military offensive that would have terrible consequences for civilians” reads the text. “We call on the government of Israel to refrain from such an offensive.”

GAZA, MELONS: FULL CONVERGENCE AT THE G7, SUPPORT FOR MEDIATION

There was “full convergence” between the G7 countries on the conflict in the Middle East: Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni underlined this in a video message released at the end of the summit in Borgo Egnazia. The Prime Minister underlined: “We confirmed our support for the US mediation proposal for an immediate ceasefire in Gazathe release of all hostages and a significant increase in humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in the Strip.”
