After thirteen years Mats Hummels leaves Borussia Dortmund. The official announcement of the farewell of one of the club’s historic pillars arrived both on the website of the yellow and black club and on the social profiles: “Borussia Dortmund and central defender Mats Hummels (35) will part ways after a total of over 13 years of successful cooperation. The decision comes after a conversation that BVB sporting director Lars Ricken, sporting director Sebastian Kehl and Mats Hummels had this week”what was written by Borussia.
Hummels’ words
Hummels left a message to the fans: “Dear fans, my time with the black and yellow is now coming to an end, after a total of over 13 years. It was a great honor and a joy for me to have played for BVB for so long and to have done part of the journey from 13th place in January 2008 to what Borussia Dortmund is today. This club with its fans is something very special and for me much more. I would also like to thank all the BVB employees who do such a great job for this club and of course all the countless great coaches and fantastic teammates that I have been able to meet here. Fingers crossed that you all gather at Borsigplatz to celebrate as soon as possible. Until then I’ll be cheering from afar and, I hope, from time to time also at the stadium. I will miss you”.

On his Instagram profile Hummels has published a photo among the stories in which he shows himself almost in tears and emotional a post is shared with a message: “More than 13 years in the yellow and black are coming to an end. We celebrated great titles together and experienced an unforgettable time with BVB. The moments shared last forever. And we will always be Borussia… Thank you for everything!”.
