The Governor of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti, arrested for corruption last May 7, remains under house arrest. This was decided by the Genoa investigating judge Paola Faggioni, who rejected the request to revoke the measure made by the President’s lawyers.
According to the judge “it is clear, also in light of recent investigative developments, that the risk that the suspect may repeat similar conduct remains. Conducts deemed fully legitimate and correct by the aforementioned in view of the next regional electoral competitions in 2025 (or any further electoral competitions), for which he had, moreover, already started the relevant fundraising“.
Lines, those just written, contained in the investigating judge’s provision, which considers that danger “even more concrete” if one considers that Toti “he still continues to hold the same functions and public positions. Consequent to the possibility that they are once again put at the service of private interests in exchange for financing“. It is particularly significant that requests for interest in Toti emerged from both Spinelli and Moncada. Specifically, interest also in relation to further administrative practices involving regional expertise.
“Therefore, there remains a real danger that the suspect may continue to facilitate the interests of these business groups” concludes the investigating judge.
