Barbara Bouchet was a guest last night on the Storie di Donne al crossroads program on Rai Due and on the occasion she talked about feeling sick on set of the film Finale allegro: “There was wind and rain, it was cold, I was a little nervous I must say. I fainted, suddenly my head felt hot and then everything went black and I went down. Then I did all the checks, they even took me to the emergency room and it was just stress.” Barbara Bouchet added: “I have to realize that I no longer have these energies and these strengths, and that the years count. When I turned 60 and 70 they didn’t bother me then when I turned 80… now I have to be able to regulate myself more, look after myself, not think that I’m 40 or 50 years old”.
Up to now Barbara Bouchet has made 124 films, including Finale Allegro: “I fought a lot to move from the sexy comedy character to taking on the roles of women my age.” About her On his childhood he said: “Nudism was part of my life, of my childhood, there was no shame”, and from there the transition to sexy comedy was short: “At the time we had a lot of those offers, I didn’t watch Edwige Fenech, I’ve never heard of this competition thing. No, every age has its moment.” When she was a little girl Barbara Bouchet lived alone in Los Angeles: “I went to look for my path and my future, so I made do with anything to be able to live.” She, the artist, then started working in the world of cinema, then came the contract in a film with Kirk Douglas: “There I understood that it was my path and that maybe I could make it.”
On his flirting and love: “Omar Sharif had asked me to go to Paris, to marry him, to live together, but he didn’t want to put any objects in the house and for me it was a hospital, my house is full of things, there isn’t a hole, every object has a memory. And then he always went to play at the casino and left me with his daughter at home. At a certain point I returned to Rome. Steve McQueen? He wanted me to cook for the biker gang, it wasn’t for me to be in the kitchen.” Barbara Bouchet later married Gigi Borghese, her only husband, to whom she was close until the end: “He didn’t have a friend, he didn’t have anyone, I felt like taking care of him and so I did.” Gigi Borghese had taken one Ferrari just for her: “But it wasn’t my car, I wasn’t interested in cars apart from the Rolls Royce, but it was comfortable and not noisy. I don’t remember the first kiss and the first I love you, many years have passed.”
BARBARA BOUCHET, THE LOST GIRL, THE GRANDMOTHER AND THE BETRAYALS
Barbara Bouchet told of having lost a child: “I had too many fibroids, I thought I wouldn’t get pregnant again, but instead I got pregnant, I didn’t know I was pregnant, but in the end I lost the baby. I had a treatment for my body, they asked me if I was pregnant, but I didn’t know, and after three months I lost the baby. Then Max came next. Be a grandmother? I don’t have the possibility, I should live in Milan, instead I live in Rome, in Milan there is the other grandmother, a former teacher, she raised them, she is still with them today, I am an unusual grandmother, I meet them for two or three days, or a week, and then I leave again.”
