Over 70 shows for more than 250 performances. There are so many stage appointments for the next season of the Regional Theater Authority, whose 2024/25 program was presented today, 13 June. And, while waiting to find out all the events, here are the previews that will await the public from next autumn.

Great performers

As per tradition, the big names of the Italian scene will grace the regional stages. Massimo Lopez and Tullio Solenghi they will be protagonists at the opening of the season with Where we were left, the ideal continuation of the Massimo Lopez and Tullio Solenghi Show which had thrilled the public a few seasons ago. Anyone who hasn’t graced the Circuit’s stages for a long time is Alessandro Bergonzoni. We will see the great storyteller again next season with his new show which will be tested with a small Italian tour this summer. A great return is represented by Lella Costa which brings back to the stage, 24 years after its debut, Othello, one lives by precise words, a very free interpretation signed by the Milanese artist and Gabriele Vacis of the Shakespearean tragedy. Whoever arrives on the Circuit for the first time is Pierpaolo Spollon, a face known to the television audience for his roles in the successful series Doc – in your hands, Blanca and Che Dio ci helps, who will be on stage with his funny monologue What I try to say I don’t know. This first roundup of faces known to the general public ends with Neri Marcorè which will compete with Fabrizio De André from La Buona Novella, an album from 1969 which will be presented in a song theater version directed by Giorgio Gallione.

Timeless texts and great directors

Theater with a capital T, the one made up of timeless texts and authors that have become a shared heritage and with which it is necessary to deal, always has an important space in Ert programming. The selection offers texts that have been entrusted to some of the most appreciated and awarded directors on the Italian and international scene and presents performers of absolute value. The name to start with is certainly Peter Stein, Berlin director who became a cultural reference for the entire second half of the twentieth century. Stein will direct Crisis of Nervous, or three one-act plays by Anton Chekhov, three texts full of sarcasm, paradoxical comedy and extravagant absurdity, prodromal of the great works of the Russian author’s maturity. Among the performers also Maddalena Crippa. In addition to Othello revisited by Lella Costathis year there will be room for another Shakespeare, that of King Lear, in the staging of Ferdinando Bruni and Francesco Frongia for the Teatro dell’Elfo with Elio De Capitani in the main role. Serena Sinigaglia she will be the director of an all-female show: Supplici from Le Supplici by Euripides, a text from 423 BC chosen by the director because “I have always loved the classics: with them I learn what theater is and what human beings are”. Supplici won the 2022 Critics’ Award from the National Association of Theater Critics. There are timeless texts written in more recent times. One is undoubtedly Cosi è (if you like) by Luigi Pirandello which will be in the Ert Theaters with the interpretation of Milena Vukotic and Pino Micol and directed by Geppy Gleijeses; another is Neil Simon’s The Irresistible Boys which we will see again – after the success of the Palmanova date in 23/24 – in the interpretation of two star performers of the scene such as Umberto Orsini and Franco Branciaroli.

Comedy and comedians

In online platforms there is always a selection by genre. In the end-of-season satisfaction questionnaires, the Circuit’s audience shows a particular appreciation for quality comedies and comedians and therefore a rich selection will be presented next season too. Starting from the end of the season, some theaters of the Circuit will close their programming with Condominio Mon Amour, the new show by and with Giacomo Poretti (of the trio Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo) e Daniela Cristofori, a couple consolidated by the success of Funeral Home. One of the most awarded pens of Italian theatre, Edoardo Erba, is the author of Pirandello Pulp, a theater play within the theater directed by Joel Dix and played by Massimo Daiuto and Fabio Troiano. Among the comedians we highlight two returns: Leonardo Manera will be the protagonist of the new monologue entitled Cortocircuito which follows Homo Modernus, a text which received great appreciation from the Ert public last season, and of Paolo Cevoli.

Productions made in Fvg

The relationship between regional productions and the Ert Circuit is increasingly strong and concerning prose, music and dance. This year too, the number of shows created in Friuli Venezia Giulia will exceed 25% of the total proposal, thanks to the quality of texts, directors, composers and performers who work in the region.

The Regional Stabile Theatre will be represented by Sior Todero Brontolon, a Goldonian classic, which will have Franco Branciaroli in the main role and will be directed by Paolo Valerio. The Contrada – Teatro Stabile di Trieste will bring the comedy Calcoli by and with Blas Roca Rey to the regional stages, accompanied by Giancarlo Ratti, Salvatore Marino and Monica Rogledi. The Css Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia presents the Friulian version of New York Marathon by Edoardo Erba which was so successful in the interpretation of Fabiano Fantini and Claudio Moretti. This new setup, in collaboration with the Stabil Furlan Theatres, will be entrusted to Daniele Fior and Marco Rogante. The Associated Artists from Gorizia, after the success of scurry I’m in a meeting… can I call you back? launches again the pairing of Gabriele Pignotta (author, director and actor) and Vanessa Incontrada in Ti sposo ma non tanto while the Miela Theatre – Bonawentura will be on Circuito with Enrico Bertolino and his new show: An evening of ordinary irony.

The collaboration with the territory is even more evident in musical programming which will be totally dedicated to the excellences coming from Friuli Venezia Giulia. Among the many scheduled events, we highlight the Fvg Orchestra which will bring the project on Arturo Zardini back to Circuito, heard at the beginning of 2023 in Pontebba, featuring the voice of Alba Nacinovich, the piano of Glauco Venier and the direction of Valter Sivilotti. On the subject of contamination between words and music, there are two productions that we will see on stage: Carmina Balcanica with the soloists ofNaonis Music Academy and From the Julian Alps to the Himalayas with theFriulian Philharmonic Orchestra and the mountaineer Nives Meroi. There will also be appointments with classical music, music for cinema, jazz and operetta.

The close relationship with the Associated Artists of Gorizia, partner of the Ert Circuit for the, continues dance. The programming, as per consolidated tradition, aims to offer the best of the various declinations of dance. There will be space, therefore, for “the tips” with, for example, the Balletto di Roma with Romeo and Juliet And Swan Lake both with the interpretation of the étoile Carola Puddu (known to the public for her participation in Amici), but also for folk, contemporary and acrobatic dance. You will also continue your collaboration with the regional company Areaarea with which a new project will be created which will be presented in Udine during the season.

The complete program for the 2024/2025 season will be revealed at the end of August. During the summer, the ertfvg.it website and the Ert Fvg social channels will delve deeper into some themes of the next season and will continue to offer previews of the programming.
