Flood: the Madonnina returned to via Lapi

Lots of participation on Friday 7 June at the inauguration ceremony of the new building pillar of the Madonnina of Via Lapi, blessed by the parish priest of the Cathedral Don Paolo Bagnoli. Located at the crossroads of the streets Lapi and Orzolari by the then parish priest of the Cathedral Don Giovanni Bertoni In the 1954on the occasion of the Marian year, has become the subject of popular cult for the entire neighborhood, the terracotta statuette, approximately tall 50 centimetres and an invoice traceable to Ballanti-Graziani workshop, remained in place until May last year. During theflood even the little pillar that had welcomed her for almost a while now 70 years old was overwhelmed by the fury of water and mud, which in that part of the city reached the four metres high, devastating homes, streets and businesses. The Madonnina in via Lapi hit the headlines when it was found a few days later, upside down but intactinside his niche in the pillar, which had broken under the fury of the water, but when it fell it had still protected the statuette inside, making it a symbol of hope. His fame reached up to Rome, so much so that the Cardinal Pietro Parolinthe Pope’s Secretary of State, visiting Faenza last December, visited her in Cathedral, on the altar of the Madonna delle Grazie. There she remained for longer one year waiting for the restoration of the pillar, which was completed in recent days: restoration and return strongly requested by the inhabitants of the area.
