Enrico Colapicchioni, 54 years old, died in an accident on the Rome ring road. The collision occurred at 2.50 am on Thursday 13 June, at kilometer 57, between the Pontina junction and Via del Mare towards Aurelia. A 21-year-old boy was seriously injured in the impact.
The fatal accident
The operations room sent three fire engines to the scene, the 11A, 4A teams and the Crrc unit, the 118 personnel and the traffic police. According to what has been learned, a tanker, driven by Enrico Colapicchioni, and a car collided. For the fifty-four-year-old driver of the heavy vehicle there was nothing that could be done. The body was taken to the Tor Vergata polyclinic. The injured 21-year-old, however, was taken under code red to the Sant’Eugenio hospital.
The investigations
The vehicles were seized. It cannot be ruled out that video surveillance footage of that stretch of road will be acquired. As per practice, the injured 21-year-old was subjected to alcohol and drug testing as per practice.
The stretch of the Grande Raccordo Anulare was closed to traffic to allow for the investigations. The vehicles involved were seized. At the moment no hypothesis is excluded. Not even that of an illness while driving.
The memory
Having heard the news, many colleagues and friends rallied around Colapicchioni’s family. “Enrico was a wonderful person, always with a smile. He brought serenity to the facilities. Always available and with a big heart. Goodbye, my friend”, the message from Matteo, owner of a petrol pump where the 54-year-old Roma fan brought fuel .

The problem, in the direction of Aurelia, also caused repercussions on normal vehicular traffic this morning with queues between the connection for the Rome – Fiumicino airport motorway and Via del Mare, due to the cleaning of the road.
